Oil : Why & When changing oil?

Why and when are we changing engine oil?

time to change oil
New Oil Vs. Old Oil
There are two main reasons to change the oil

The first reason Due to user manual guide, automotive companies’ advice them customers to change oil periodically, by periodic kilometers or periodic time.

But, preferred to change the New Car oil's after the first 1000 Km, then period of 5000 km will be good for your car. but follow the company recommendations if available.

The second reason we change oil is engine repairing. Like insufficient burning or mixed oil with coolant water that’s cause oil property failure etc.

But to go in the depth, oil’s protects the engine parts from excess friction “engine wear”, and it also working as coolant for the moving mechanical parts.  After a time period the properties of the oil will change due to working environments like viscosity which may be harmful for your Engine. The purity of the oil will affect the oil filter and/or the oil paths due to the material wearing rates. Both of them may be blocked and affecting the engine.

There are two types of changing oil for the engine, a- changing oil with changing the filter, b- changing the oil without the filter. the differences are the oil quantity and the cost. Change the oil with filter is better than keeping the old filter but not economical.

On the other hands, leakage or Oil evaporation is exists in some cases; this may require adding some new oil to reach the oil optimum level. But, in my opinion mixing the new one with the old oil could affect s the engine too.

In fact, changing the car oil refreshing the engine, increasing the engine efficiency, increases the durability of the “lubricated moving mechanical components” reduces the fuel consumption and gives your car the smooth and easy enhancement.

How to change your car Oil?
You are just a few steps away to save oil change cost, About 50 $ oil change price and some time will be saved by change your car oil.

Before you start, you will need:
- if you need some information, read the next topics " if you need "

Why & when we change the engine oil?

you will also need to :
- New oil bottle " Look in your shop manual for the system capacity with filter change "
- New oil filter
- Crushed washer
- Allen key, or socket wrench
- Oil Filter remover
- Jack to lift your car
- A container to gather the drained oil
- oil funnel
- Rags
- Rubber Gloves
- Your car workshop manual if available

Safety First:

1- Make sure that the car is not able to move while you left it or when you crawling under the car.
2- The engine and the oil are too hot, so be careful to touch the engine block.
3- Do not touch any moving part while it moves.
4- Avoid contact with oil and rubber like belts, that may cause skidding of rubber parts.
5- while you changing the oil, avoid oil mixing with water or any dirt.

Steps:

1- Start your engine for a couple of minutes to heat the oil.

2- Stop the engine and wait 5 minutes and then remove the dipstick or just loosen it to prevent a vacuum building up behind the oil when you start to drain it.

3- Remove the battery cables.

4- Use the lift jack to raise your car the amount that gives you the accessibility crawling under the car “ keep safety caution in your mind to under the vehicle

5- Put the container under the oil pan and adjust it directly under the draining sump plug.

drain old oil

6- Put on your gloves and just loosen the sump plug slightly by using your wrench.

7- Complete removing the sump plug by hand carefully.

DIY , do it your self
Oil paths
8- Let the oil to flow out for 5 min to be sure that every oil path is empty.

9- Use your filter remover to remove the old filter “ be carful, the oil filter is filled with oil, get the container under it, and loosen it first and complete removing by hands

10- Clean the filter mounting thread using an oily rag and wipe around the mounting face.

11- Get a new oily rag and wipe the new filter seal, and then spin it by hand on the engine block until it locked, use your muscle to get another quarter turn by hand ; this is normally enough to secure it in place.

12- After draining all the old oil, clean the sump plug thread by some old oil from the drainer, and then  Replace sump plug crush washer with the new one. screw it back with your hand.

13- Use your wrench again to complete screwing the sump plug. Be sure that you tight it well “This can vary from a quarter turn to a half turn to crush the washer”. Don’t leave it too loosely or it will fall out.

14- Insert the dipstick back to its right place.

15- Remove the container away and clean around the filter and the sump plug then you can clean the floor. Now you just installed the new oil filter and sump plug with new crush washer. The most important thing that you have empty engine block “DO NOT START YOUR ENGINE FOR ANY REASON

engine oil
pour- in the new oil
16- Put your oil funnel into the oil filler hole and pour-in the right amount of oil. Do it slowly. Do not use all the bottle quantity just in case to refine the amount.

17- Now you need to run the oil pump to fill the filter, to do this just crank the engine “do not start the engine “. Connect the battery cables, remove fuel pump fuse and remove the main distributer cable. Crank the engine until the oil lamp goes off. You are pumping new oil into the empty filter and then expelling all the air from the oil lines and cavities.

18- Once the oil lamp goes off reconnect the fuel pump fuse and the main distributer cable and start the engine. Let it idle for a minute or so.

19- Stop the engine and go check the dipstick for the optimum level, you can add some more oil if you need to. If it’s ok close the filling hole.

20- Check around the filter and sump plug for oil leaking both should be as clean as you left them with no sign of leaks and over the floor too. If there's a leak, a little tightening of the drain plug or filter should cure it.

The most important, Go celebrate your success :)

Oil : Understanding oil grade Coeds

Understanding oil grade Coeds

The SAE designation for multi-grade oils includes two grade numbers; for example, 10W-30 designates common multi-grade oil. Historically, the first number associated with the (W) is not rated at any single temperature. The "10W" means that this oil can be pumped by your engine as well as a single-grade SAE 10 oil can be pumped notice that ('W' is for Winter, not Weight) .

oil grade codes
Oil Grade
"5W" can be pumped at a lower temperature than "10W" and "0W" can be pumped at a lower temperature than "5W". The second number, 30, means that the viscosity of this multi-grade oil at 100°C (212°F) operating temperature corresponds to the viscosity of a single-grade 30 oil at same temperature.

The governing SAE standard is called SAE J300. This "classic" method of defining the "W" rating has since been replaced with a more technical test where a "cold crank simulator" is used at increasingly lowered temps. A 0W oil is tested at −35 °C (−31 °F), a 5W at −30 °C (−22 °F) and a 10W is tested at −25 °C (−13 °F).

The motor oil grade and viscosity to be used in a given vehicle is specified by the manufacturer of the vehicle (although some modern European cars now make no viscosity requirement), but can vary from country to country when climatic or mpg constraints come into play.

These classifications, the winter grades of 5W, 10W and 20W are determined by the oils' viscosity at less than 0° Fahrenheit (-18°C), while grades 20, 30, 40 and 50 are determined by its viscosity at 212° Fahrenheit (100°C). Those are the predetermined temperatures.

The next table will explain how to use OIL GRADS.
Oil type
Typically used in....
5W-30
Cooler climates, like Sweden or Canada
10W-40
Temperate climates, like England
15W-50
Hot climates, like Italy, Spain, Egypt

Based on the range of viscosity the oil falls in at that temperature, the oil is graded as an SAE number 0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60. The higher the viscosity, the higher the SAE grade number is.
For single-grade oils, the kinematic viscosity is measured at a reference temperature of 100°C.The reference temperature is meant to approximate the operating temperature to which motor oil is exposed in an engine.

definitions :

Mono grade : definition of oil specification where the kinematic viscosity is measured at a reference temperature of 100°C.

Multi-grade : definition of oil specification to measure the kinematic viscosity where The temperature range that the oil is exposed to in most vehicles can be wide, ranging from cold ambient temperatures in the winter before the vehicle is started up to hot operating temperatures when the vehicle is fully warmed up in hot summer weather.

How to Save Gas During Summer

Posted by Unknown On Tuesday, 19 June 2012 19 comments

In Fact, fuel efficiency can be achieved in a number of ways. The purchase of a fuel efficient automobile, of course, leads the way in effectiveness.
fuel

But for those owners already hampered by a gas guzzler or those with a functional need for the vehicle, simply buying a new car is not a viable option. Instead, owners can achieve greater fuel efficinecy by adjusting driving habits, installing appropriate performance upgrades or selecting improved fuels.

Here are some tips help the driver to be low gas consumer:

1- Drive at the optimum speeds "around 80 to 100 Km/hr" which gives you high engine performance.
2- Slowly Accelerate
3- Long trips are better than short trips.
4- Stop your car when idling "Excessive idling consuming too much fuel"
5- Hot weather Better than cold weather " no need for warm-up"
6- Use light Braking "better than heavy brake"
7- Avoid rush hours driving or traffic pinch points.
8- Tire Inflation should be the proper pressure.
9- Choose the correct Gear in case of manual gear shifting.
10- Use the electric accessories like air condition, if only necessary.
11- Reduce the car weight as much as you can.
12- Don't increase the drag resistance by opening.
13- Switch to A/C if possible "Hybrid Cars".

Advanced Auto World Mission

Advanced auto
The world mission is so easy, saving the world.

The increasing in the Earth temperature makes all people racing to find a solution to survive. In a closed cycle, burning fuel, consuming the energy non-wisely ways, and abuse the earth resources left us on the edge.

This hard mission leads them to another one a little easier. If we can’t stop using energy and resources we will intelligently consume it.

Through my next words, I will show you how this mission is directly connected by your car, and how your car with this advanced auto parts and technologies acting postivily in the world mission. but before we proceed i will give you some hints about the available cars, how it works, and which kind of fuel are using.

Please Press the below links to know about those cars.
1- Conventional cars.
2- Electric Car.
3- Hydrogen Car.
4- Plugin-Hybrid Car.
5- Air Car.
6- Hybrid Car.

" If you found the problem, be sure that you can solve it"

The Problems :
1- Emissions polluting the planet.
2- Heavy car weight consume energy.
3- Wrong driving equals to more unwanted emissions.

The solution:
1- Use clean energy.
2- Reduce Car weights.
3- control the driver behavior

1- Is that so easy? absolutely no. Generating electricity "the clean energy" need to burn some gas. also, how many time you can continually drive without battaries recharging ? and how much fast that will be?
Even if we think about another clean source Like Air, or  Hydrogen. Compressing Air needs electricity and hydrogen Liquefaction needs electricity too. Not to mention, the risk of having a tank of compressed air or liquid hydrogen at your seat back. so, is electricity the best solution? "in my opinion, yes it is."

2- To use electricity you need the maximum driving time before the next charging. To stop wasting energy to move forward .minimize the heavy car body components  and reduce the car weight. but can you ensure the vehicle stability on the road.!!

3- The best part of this topic to me. No more stupid driver after today ( sorry for accidents lovers :)) . your car will drive you home, work , or any place you need. The advanced control unites, advanced auto parts, and the driver-less "drive by wire" technology will save misused energy, and will safe your life too. with advantage of low power consuming, accuracy, and less weight. this will support the electric vehicles for the next 10 years

Advanced Cars concept is a conclusion and solution for all the planet and humans suffering during the past years. this becomes a world mission.
